Render and masonry painting
External wall coatings selected after assessing the existing surface and previous treatments.
Preparation comes first
Loose render, cracks and persistent damp should be investigated before coating. Establish the substrate and previous finish where possible. A new decorative layer cannot repair an unstable wall or resolve moisture entering behind it.
Agreeing the finish
The coating must be suitable for the masonry or render system. Historic surfaces may require specialist advice about compatibility. Agree repairs, test areas, access and the intended colour before work begins.
For listed buildings and conservation areas, check the proposed work before starting. See Historic England’s advice on redecoration.
