Decorating services
Metalwork and railing painting
Preparation and coating of suitable railings, gates and other external metalwork.
Preparation comes first
Identify the metal and the condition of the existing coating. Corrosion, loose joints and damaged sections may need repair before decoration. Protect neighbouring stone, paving and planting during preparation.
Agreeing the finish
Specify preparation, primer and finishing coats as a system suited to the metal. Decorative repainting should be distinguished from structural repairs. Access to the reverse of railings or gates needs to be agreed in advance.
For listed buildings and conservation areas, check the proposed work before starting. See Historic England’s advice on redecoration.
