Decorative finishes

Sample-led colour and texture treatments for selected walls and architectural details.

Preparation comes first

A decorative finish depends on the base beneath it. Record the wall condition, lighting and extent of the proposed treatment. A small colour card cannot show the movement or texture of a larger hand-applied finish.

Agreeing the finish

Agree a sample panel, viewing conditions and acceptable variation before extending a finish across a room. The quotation should distinguish base preparation, sample work, application and any protective coating. Discuss cleaning and future touch-ups at the same time.

For listed buildings and conservation areas, check the proposed work before starting. See Historic England’s advice on redecoration.
