Ceiling painting
Ceilings, coving and ceiling roses, with repairs and access assessed before decoration.
Preparation comes first
Light across a ceiling can expose ridges, old patches and inconsistent texture. Record cracks and stains, and establish whether their cause has been resolved. High ceilings and stairwell voids need a separate access plan.
Agreeing the finish
Decide whether the scope is redecoration, local repairs or specialist plasterwork. These are different tasks and should be described separately. The finish should suit the substrate, room use and the appearance of adjoining cornices.
For listed buildings and conservation areas, check the proposed work before starting. See Historic England’s advice on redecoration.
