Bathroom painting

Decoration for bathroom ceilings, walls and joinery with moisture conditions considered first.

Preparation comes first

Persistent staining or mould needs investigation before repainting. Explain any leaks, condensation or ventilation changes when requesting a quotation. Existing coatings and the condition of the plaster determine the preparation required.

Agreeing the finish

Separate painted areas from tiled or waterproofed areas. A decorative coating is not a substitute for a waterproofing system. Select the finish for its intended location and follow the manufacturer’s ventilation, drying and cleaning instructions.

For listed buildings and conservation areas, check the proposed work before starting. See Historic England’s advice on redecoration.
