Period Conversion with Modern Palette

The Challenge

The client wanted a distinctly modern aesthetic within a Victorian shell, which required finding the balance between contemporary colour choices and period architectural features. The geometric wallpapers selected by the client had very precise pattern repeats that demanded exact hanging to avoid visual misalignment, particularly around the bay windows.

Our Approach

We worked closely with the client to test her preferred colours against the existing period features, adjusting tones where needed to ensure harmony. All walls were re-lined before painting or papering. The geometric wallpapers were hung working outwards from a carefully established centre line to ensure symmetry within each room. Internal doors were removed, sanded, primed, and spray-finished in a deep navy satin to create a dramatic contrast against the lighter wall colours. Bathroom surfaces were prepared with a specialist primer to ensure adhesion over existing tiles.

The Result

The finished maisonette is a confident blend of Victorian structure and modern sensibility. The navy doors threading through the apartment create a unifying design element, and the geometric wallpapers bring energy and personality to the reception rooms.
