Planning guides

Decorating an occupied property

Plan access, protection, ventilation and the order of rooms before work begins in an occupied property.

Agree available rooms

Explain where people will sleep, work and pass through the property. Decide which rooms can be cleared and where contents will go. A small space may still require careful phasing if it connects the rest of the home.

Keep access in the brief

Record shared entrances, stairs and any building management requirements. Discuss how materials will arrive, where they will be stored and how work areas will be separated. These arrangements should be settled before the programme.

Plan return to use

Follow the selected product instructions for ventilation, drying and curing. Reoccupation and cleaning should be discussed with those instructions in mind. Do not assume that a surface that feels dry is ready for normal handling.

Start with the details

Tell us what needs decorating.

Share the property location, the surfaces involved and the finish you have in mind.
